Most folks have to pay tuition for mistakes like buying home-slabbed coins. You got away lucky!
Theoretically, any proof coin of a regular circulation issue made in the '80s (especially 1984) or later is supposed to be cameo.

Proofs were always intended to be cameo. But it was not until 1973 that the mint stopped using the Proof dies once the cameo effect was no longer being imparted to the coins. Prior to that date a Proof with cameo devices was pretty scarce. But from 1973 on pretty much all Proof coins had the cameo devices.
I mentioned '80s because I have a few 1977, 78 proof Ike dollars that are not cameos, and my '78-S quarter is struggling to be a cameo.
