Looks a lot more like 1915 to me -- I think the spacing indicates that vertical stroke was a 1, not part of a 4. And there might once have been a mint mark, but I expect we'll never know. A very cool thing to find in a roll!
The date has four digits and it looks evenly spaced between them. Definitely not a 1943 as it’s not steel. Looks like a 1915 to me.
Well it's certainly not 1943 - the tail of the 3 on those extends as far down as the 9. I'm guessing you were hoping for a 43 bronze. Sorry. 1915 is also my vote. 13% light is a lot but there's a LOT of the coin missing.
Yeah, it's only a 1915. Keep searching, you'll find a 1943, or at least a 1945, there are still lots of those out there. So don't give up hope! And the dates will be easier to read, mostly, than this crappy one.
There are only a handful of bronze 1943 cents and they are probably all accounted for and most certainly would not have circulated to that extent. If you are looking for a bronze 1943 cent, I suggest looking at Heritage Auctions, not in rolls.
