While going through my late father-in-laws coin collection, I discovered these two slabbed dollars. After searching the serial number of one of the coins, I discovered that the search returned no results. After staring at the slabs for a minute, I soon realized that the number on BOTH coins were the same. How are we supposed to confidential collect coins when you can't even trust a slabbed coin? I removed the coins and weighed them both ....both weighed 23 grams....4 grams short of the required weight. Be careful out there! fake morgans.jpg

Counterfeiters also put authentic but over graded coins in fake holders.

Yea, these both came up 23 grams ....should be 26-27 grams to be real. Well, good news is that no one else will be dupped by these two coins again.

Yep. Sadly the Bejing mint has figured out that we were on to their phony coins so they wised up and started putting them in phony slabs. Danged slimeballs.

From those photos they don't even look silverish.
The dates both look bad as well.

I immediately notice the label font is wrong. Neither coin is close to MS 68. You are correct to be upset and un-able to trust labels. It is extremely important to only buy from trusted sources.

It's called an education...you have to research and educate yourself or throw money around and see what sticks.
    The later could be costly.

I do I not believe they are true grading companies. If the grading company is reputable then the coins themselves are definitely over graded.

The holders sort of resemble NGC graded coins, but they aren’t. It does not say “NGC” anywhere on the front. Are they marked “NGC” on the back? At any rate, the pieces look like counterfeits.
