    Byzantine bronze cup-shaped trachy
    From the 9th - 12th century AD
Without inscription, hard to identify the emperor who issued it

    :)

I'd guesstimate that it's more towards the 12th century.

When I see a coin this ragged my first suspicion is the Latin rulers 1204-1261 for which this is pretty well struck. They copied old types and made up new ones but the ordinary Byzantine books like Sear dismiss them as a complicated mess and I do not have the specialized works. Of course I'd give that ID no more than a 50-50 shot. I'd try the Forvm Byzantine board in the hopes someone there has a clue.

Thanks, sorry I missed your post. posted at the same time

So do you think I should label it like this?

"Latin Empire of Constantinople, 1204-1261 AD.(If official, John III or Michael VIII)"

    I'd write:

    Latin Empire of Constantinople
    AE trachy, 1204-1261 AD
(Obv description that I'm too lazy to type)
(Rev description that I'm too lazy to type)
    Sear #

Heres the response I got from forum

"This is a Latin trachy, a Sear 2021, Hendy Type A or a sear 2044 depending on size, 2021>2044 my guess is a 2044.

Obverse: virgin nimbate std on throne with back wearing tunic and maphorion holding nimbate head of Christ on breast

Reverse: Emperor stg, wearing stemma, divitision, and chlamys, holding labarum in r. and anexikakia in l."
