ATB 5 Ounce pucks - how are they doing?

Hello, back when the ATB series was going strong, I decided to buy a few of the large "hockey puck" 5oz silver versions. I bought Saratoga (2015), Kisastchie (2015), Arches (2014), Mount Rushmore (2013), Fort McHenry (2013), and Chaco Culture (2012). They sat in their original mint cases since I bought them (wow, pretty much 10 years ago) and I just ran across them while rummaging. Looking around the internet, they seem to be doing okay for bullion and collecting. I'm curious what this board thinks of them? Are they more numismatic collectibles or bullion? Current silver prices of $29.27/oz puts their silver value at $146.24. So, I'm guessing they still have quite a bit of collector's value over and above the silver value.

3-4 years ago I had a couple of regulars who bought one or two every show + a straggler here or there. The buy price was $170 - $190. Sell was $190 - $215.

Yeah, I see similar prices generally. I think the BU and SP versions confused a lot of people and you lost some collectors by getting burned paying SP money for BU issues. I kind of pick them up when I am bored at local coin shows. I only buy SP versions, preferring those in OMP versus slabbed. Those are the biggest dang slabs I have seen in my life. I just own a couple of them.

I was rummaging around a week or so ago and found a few of these ATB coins that I had bought back on 2011. Mine are contained inside some plastic capsules and they still looked as brilliant as the day I bought them (no tarnish at all). These coins really are attention grabbers.

Are they the Collectors Pucks? They have the mint mark on them! The Collectors version comes in a box usually unless someone has destroyed box. IMG_1419 (1).jpg

2011, when the bullion versions became available for sale and there was a frenzy to buy from the authorized purchasers, was the peak for pricing. The SP versions from the mint were also popular at that time (with some of the first few achieving quick sell-outs). The Hawaii in 2012 became one of the keys and increased in price. However, most have decreased in price from the 2011-2012 peaks. The ones that were available when silver spot was lower (there was a period some of the bullion could be had for not much over $100 each) are currently doing ok due to spot increases.

Great thread. No kidding I had planned to go see my dealer buddy to buy a puck tomorrow. Only one I have is the Apollo puck and yeah, a five ounce hunk of silver is a joy to look at. It’s a busy day tomorrow but trying to get by my buddy’s shop is high on my list. If I score one I’ll report back what the going rate was.

I checked dealer wholesale prices. The common dates start at $253. Yow! These dates were trading at $155-$170 and retailing between $190-$215 before the recent run up in PM prices. I had several clients who would buy one or from me every month. I was always in the hunt for new pucks and different dates. Then their popularity dropped, I had several NGC graded proofs/burnished/reverse proofs, coins only, and OGP. I couldn't sell 'em on a bet. I believe I wholesaled them out when prices started to raise. I was happy to get rid of them. Best of luck with your purchase. As with many mint issues I recommend OGP vs graded.

Finally was able to catch up with my guy and grabbed one of his pucks. No box and the puck was a bit bruised but at $155.00, I couldn't say no... He has two more and I may go back and pick those up too.
