I have the $30 dollar vmicro one that's supposed to go up to 200x, but I can't seem to get it to. I'm looking at a pencil type on eBay with some good reference shots that claims to go up to 800x. Listed as a USB microscope endoscope boroscope. They run about $50 shipped & show pixel of a magnified Chinese note, scalp, broken tooth, etc. Hope this helped.

I have bought 2 different ones. 1st one worked for 5 days, then the focus adj. broke. 2nd one, NO software for it, so cant use it as microscope, but works as web cam.:devil::mad:

Unfortunately, a lot of these are made in China, and getting replacements parts can be almost impossible.

If you are doing it just to ease your vision, ask you county disability service center or as they sometimes call it, Blind center, what kind of magnifier wand they use. The problem with the USB type of microscopes, they usually have a max of 5 mpx, which is almost useless as it gets blurry beyond 480 x640. Before making a big investment, try adjusting your screen resolution to a lower amount when the eyes are tired. The print and everything will look larger.

If you really want to look at coins, a stereo optical microscope is just incredibly better than any type of digital scope. We are pleased with this model, which we have used about a year.

Very nice indeed. I purchased one, but was wondering what eyepiece power you use. I see there are several optional pieces available. I have the same question on the camera.

It finally arrived several days ago and I am very pleased. (Special thanks to Frankcoins.com for his post about it.) For less than $10 more, I purchased model SE305-PX. It has lighting from both underneath and on top and additional base plates for contrasting your subject matter. It can be used for many things besides coins that way. Very clear, great demensional images and all with wide angle viewing. It is so easy and quick to use, instead of calling up photos from inside my spreadsheet program. (However, you still need photographs for documentation and posting applications.) It greatly improves you ability to properly grade and identfy your coins for Vam, doubling, weak strike vs wear, ect.....

I have this one but I have not been able to take a picture of the whole coin. It is OK for a small part of the coin boy.

The height of the microscope is determind by the focal point, it cannot be changed. You would need to go to a lower magnification to increase the image size. It doesn't appear this feature is available for it. What you are suggesting is what a camera can do, not a microscope.
