I would like to find a way to get a $1 or $2 bill postmarked with current postage and handcancelled (like they did with some of the 1976 $2's back on April 13th, '76). It is extremely important for me... It is the 10th year anniversary of when this happened and I want to find a way to do this. Got any ideas? I live on the West coast and it would be impossible for me to get over there and get it postmarked in Manhattan, but still I want to find a way to do something... Suggestions, comments, and critics welcome :).

I also have the same question for anybody who has ideas. Anyone on CT in Manhattan? :)

I remember back in the day of Stamp collecting. You could send a request to the Postmaster of the zip code you wanted along with a self addressed stamped envelope and the fee for the correct postage to be hand canceled and they would do it and then return it to you in your envelope. Hope this may help and Good Luck :)

More details by any chance? So let me get this straight:
    1) Contact postmaster of Manhattan zip code. Let he/she know what it is I want to do with postage paid
    2) Postmaster gets the bill, stamps it, handcancells it, and returns it
    3) I have my bill :D

    Does that all sound right?

    Sounds right

I never did it with dollar bills. I did it with what are called 1st day of issue (Covers) Stamped envelopes. Got them retuned to me in my SASE.

What were you thinking you were going to do? There are so many different bills I could use for this... Like a Series 2001 NY $1 or a NY $2 or just a 2009 NY $1? I still have plenty of time to figure all this out, but I wanna be sure that I guess this done the right way.
