Here is an old coin a man I know found in a roll of dimes. I was just wondering if anyone knew what it was and the apx value. Thanks for any help.
It's a Roman follis that probably depicts contantius II (reigned AD 337-361). The back shows a Roman soldier spearing a fallen horseman, with the legend "FEL TEMP REPARATIO," roughly meaning "The return of happy times" surrounding. While this is definitely an interesting and unusual thing to find in a roll of dimes, and I would keep it for that reason, in this condition, it probably isn't worth significantly more than the dimes that surrounded it.
It has the look of a coin cleaned with olive oil. Not surprising, since this is one of the most common coins found in uncleaned lots. Probably someone seeded a roll to give you a pleasant surprise.
