Just wanted to share this auction I saw for a 1989 collection of ABNCo vignettes: RARE AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY INTAGLIO PRINTS 89' SET [eBay link] I don't know much about this edition of reprinted vignettes, or what value it should be selling for, but I have found this seller in the past, Old West Gold, selling coins at significant mark ups, often several times over auction prices they realized through TeleTrade for example. I would assume this piece is no different with its set price.
Looks like the wrong code was used on the image format I get that error when i try to post an email to a group Image.
That price of $195 Buy it Now is a fair price.!0 years ago I bought that set (1989) for $ 175 but seems they haven' t appreciated much in value or it's the economy now,but it a fair going price definately these days. If You Have a macro lens or a close up you can enlarge them to see details nicely. I think I have a few I've donr that with I'll try to post a few. Not all of these are fom the 1989 set I have the 87/88/89/sets
Thanks for posting the engravings, they're fantastic! I like the second one... it must be called "America, land of work and play", since it has Liberty, one man with a pick, and another with an electric guitar Dave
Most excellent..thatks to all who posted these.. Makes you yearn for that type of Artistry again! RickieB
LOL.... I don't think thats a guitar.... actually the vignette is "Construction and Industry" Engraved by George Lambert,ABNCo circa 1919,Artist is Alonzo Earl Foringer, This vignette was used on the : L.C. Smith Corona Typewriter,Inc,Stock Cert.,1926,Lehigh Portland Cement Co,Stock Cert,1927,South American Gold & Platinun Co,Stock Cert.1926,Lehigh Valley Coal Co.,Coupon & Registered Bonds,1924,Kingdom of Belgium,Coupon Bond
Wow! This eBay seller seems to have trimmed out a bunch of engraved plates from the ABNCo Archive Series portfolios and/or The Story of American Banknote Company in order to sell the individual vignettes. I hope the books were beyond repair so they decided to try and sell these in parts.
Wow, I agree, such a nice book too! Have to wonder the condition prior to cutting it up? Connor, Art - glad you liked the link!!! Best Regards ~ Darryl
