Okay, maybe I have been living under a rock for the last few months, but I have seen no news about a final design for the reverse of the 2010 cent lately. Anyone know if the final design has been announced yet ?
......it will be announced thursday, the 12th. and according to CW the obverse of the coin will be changed back to the original lincoln portrait of 1909. IF i understood what i read correctly.
The official "headline from CW: They haven't officially chosen the "park quarter" designs either, although the finalists look pretty good.
.......the obverse today has been changed many times over the years, although subtly, since the original detail of 1909.
One of the main differences on the 1909 is that there was no VDB located on Lincoln's shoulder. The mint began putting the VDB on the shoulder in 1918.
Excellant! The original is much better. Later designs make his beard look like lines. Probably what his beard actually looked like when they finally buried him in 1901.
I think they need to totally redesign the cent. Choose a new reverse and obverse. Why rehash the wheat penny? We've been there and done that.
But according to the law the 2009 cent was supposed to have the original Brenner obv design and relief. Didn't happen did it. Not even on the mint and proof set coins where the slower speeds would have made it possible. SEC. 305. SENSE OF THE CONGRESS. It is the sense of the Congress that the original Victor David Brenner design for the 1-cent coin was a dramatic departure from previous American coinage that should be reproduced, using the original form and relief of the likeness of Abraham Lincoln, on the 1-cent coins issued in 2009. Approved December 22, 2005.
.....this from another forum about the CW article recently about the 2010 cent. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=34&threadid=747917&STARTPAGE=1
