Word just came from the mint and it looks like

Oct. 15 release of the 2009 gold Buffalo bullion coin

Oct. 29 release of the proof buffalo gold collector version.

Fractional gold American Eagle bullion coins in tenth-ounce, quarter-ounce and half-ounce weights are scheduled tentatively for release Dec. 3.

A proof one-ounce platinum American Eagle also is scheduled tentatively for release Dec. 3.

    No silver eagles this year.

Those are good news, but at the price of gold. .. $1040+ oz. Lord knows if it is a worth going for the Buffalo as a "good investment buy"!

Depending on how long they go, mintage could be very small on the '09 proof Buff. Unless, of course, they sell the thing until this time next year.

Since I'm a newbie, will the proof version be from the mint and the bullion version and AGE fractional coins be from a dealer?

I saw one major website which normally sells 2008 Buffs for $149 over spot, pre-selling the $2009s for only $1112.80 today. That's about $70 less than what they sell the 2008s for at today's spot.

Anyone care to guess why the 2009s are less than the 2008s? Does the Mint have some limit on how much of a markup the authorized dealers can charge on the coins they purchase directly from the Mint?
