Well watched this all week. Was in the 3s up to the last half hour or so. I estimate it at f15. And max on the 50/20 variety which is most common is about 750. These usually don't hit price guide let alone bring near a thousand... and look at that 25.00 price tag on that 2x2. @okbustchaser
Nice looking coin in the pics. Solid VF today. I had it on my Watchlist but forgot about it. With the 3 snipers at the end I wouldn't have gotten it anyway.
$25 for that coin? Guessing in the 1970's. By the late 80s/early 90's an 1807 like that they would be asking $80/100 in my memory. Anything before the 1820's moved up in the 80's to close to $100 for a VF, with the 20's and 30s staying in the 40/50 range for a while. A famous dealer had 3 VFs for $120 or 2 XFs, and all were in the 20/30s for the coins you got.
I was going to Snipe it for 600 but when it got into the 5s I knew it would take more. I tossed 600 out right before the end to drive them snipers wild. And it worked. When I sent it it was at 530 something I think. It immediately got that 596 bid. Then the snipers went wild.
It may date back to the 50s, but it was updated and priced no earlier than 1969 due to the Overton number on it.
Good point. I don't know what prices were for in the 50's, but bought quite a few originally sold in the 70's so this price would not have surprised me from that era. Could have been earlier, but if so the coin did not go up until the 80's from that price.
Well an update, this coin was not paid for. The seller relisted it. I pushed it to 430. I didn't want to go big this time. But wasn't letting it sell for 350. I messaged the seller this time and told him if they don't pay message me lol.
Does the older holder and pen writing contribute to the higher selling price? I mean would someone pay more because it looks like it's been in that holder for 50 years?
Not from me. Its cool, but unless there is a provenance associated with it, (listing dealer lot number, auction number, etc), I do not see why it would be worth a premium.
