Going thru some change I got this morning and upon seeing this isn’t a close AM i was about to move on, then noticed what looks like possible doubling on the right side of the memorial. Probably some kind of mechanical doubling, right? Also, along the bottom steps to the right side, the steps look like they have some bumps in them. I was thinking the bumps look similar to the rocks or whatever is to the right of them but probably just some pmd... this coin is beat!
Hey, you can’t discount zincolns! There are plenty of varieties that go for thousands of dollars, ie the close am version of this!
See that White stuff ? that is zinc. That zinc is the core of the cent which has a thin 8 micron copper plating above it. When the coin was minted (stamped) the copper plating was stretched and split exposing the zinc core. Zinc starts corroding fairly quickly when it interacts with stuff like ... steam (think washer dryer type). Then you get surface anomalies all over the coin (bumps, etc) and soon the coin starts eating itself. Welcome to the Wonderful World of zincolns.
