Seriously...I've seen coins that I know that have suffered flood damage/moisture damage with a similar look.
that coin could use a quick dip to take off the haze. Nothing extreme mind you, just a quickie in maybe a 33% strength solution might do it.
Cheryl, Although I see what you are talking about, I have noticed that this is very common with mint sets in the 80s and 90s. I had heard somewhere that it is a chemical reaction between the coins and the glue used to seal the sets. Sounds reasonable anyway. Here is a little trivia info..... Robert Graham who designed the obverse of this coin, just recently died at the end of 2008..... was married to a famous actress....Angelica Houston. When he died, CNN.com had a little blip about it and I happened to catch it.
