OK no more imagined doubled dies for me. And I'm sorry I wasted you guys time on my hallucinations. Here is my latest find. I don't really care about value as I'm ok financially but am going to collect strange and rare cents. This one has a raised metal strip in front of the face starting at the nose and ending on the forehead. It also has this metal on the reverse across the C in One Cent and the Lincoln Memorial is shifted/doubled on the reverse as well. I'm curious as to what process caused these errors and if there is any value in this sort of error.
It's not doubled. it is a raised shelf of metal that starts mid nose and is a raised plane of metal. as the the metal moves up the face it widens out and becomes a further raised blob at the end of the foregead. The C in "one cent" on the reverse also has a thick raised metal stripe crossing it and the memorial only is shifted right not the lettering.0000.
It's very similar to this one. This is a trench around the mouth but ends up looking like a booger.. ha ha
I'm sorry it's the best I can do. I didn't have any good camera but couldn't afford the camera, light box. stand. etc... so I got this $45.00 microscope but it has LED's you can't turn off and it's really one dimensional. That's why they make stereoscopes.. DUH. All I can afford right now..
Don't feel bad, got the same scope-you got to take pics from 13 different angles to get what your looking for. nice find on the coin, agree with the md---if you are looking for a excellent description of 'doubling', non-cents posted a very quick read with pics on what they look like-check it out---its on this site----later
I studied a bit more and it probably is machine doubling of some sort. I'm going to keep them anyway.
