    Hey Folks,
I am starting the conservation process of this 197X Lincoln Cent. It has what I believe to have a retained lamination and cud (12:00). I want to clean it up a bit and be sure that what is on the coin is metal and not gunk. I’m going to start with a week long soak in distilled water (it would potentially be less, but my schedule doesn’t allow for less). Next will be soaks in acetone. If I can get xylene, I will soak it in there next and then work my way backwards. Your recommendations and musings are always welcome. I will try to keep updates with photographs as I go along.

    First soak in distilled water:

This coin is sitting with another coin that I’m also preserving and will update that one here:https://www.cointalk.com/threads/copper-conservation-help-needed.335943/

Aside from being more wet, no visible changes after 24+ hours. Soaking will continue for another 5 days or so.
