Has anyone seen one just like it? Does something like this increase the collectability or is this considered Damaged? What's your opinion??
Not my coin. Just thought it humorous that someone thought this was a special strike maybe. Cool design though.

Any coin on this planet can be Counter stamped with any words or image. It was neatly done so it could be a collectable item to someone who likes USN items.

Now I'm off to fo metal detect! ;)

It could be an official navy stamp used to mark parts or other property. It's nicely done and I could see a counterstamp collector paying $20 or so for it. Ebay would be the best place to sell it.

There are people who enjoy collecting modern counter-stamped and elongated coins. I'm actually not convinced that this one is "stamped" however. It appears to follow the changes in elevation a bit too well.

I also would say the design is engraved and not stamped. I used an old school style of manual engraving machine to do zippo lighters back in my navy days.

Even if engraved there's still a market for it. Now that I look more closely It does look engraved.

All counter stamped coins are damaged. Having said that they are collectible, especially the older ones from the 1800’s, the Civil War, etc. Yours is on a 1977 coin so it’s new but it’s the US Navy so it will be sought after by some. Nice find so hang on to and protect it.

I think calling it an engraved coin is a more accurate description of what it really is.
The coin you posted is not a post mint Counter- Struck or Stamped coin.

At first from a few others a little ago though it was navy but its a anti military slang term that began during the Vietnam erra.
