I've just heard of a 90% silver 1967 quarter being authenticated by ANACS. Anybody ever hear of one of these AND does anyone have any idea of what it might be worth?
I don't think silver ones ever existed. They minted 1.5 million normal clad 67's. There were also what were called special mint sets from 65-67 that were struck on unpolished planchets (as opposed to the normal proof ones) but they used over-polished dies. Which resulted in coins that are proof like. The SMS's were not silver and the full 67 set is worth about 20 bucks. The quarter in question was probably broke out of one of those sets.
1967 Not yet??? I know PCGS has grade 2 1966 Quarter that are silver. but 1967 I have not seen one yet
Considering they stopped striking silver almost a year earlier (coins dated 1964) the chances are VERY unlikely uless it was a "helped" piece such as the 1970-S proof stuck on a 1900 barber quarter, or the 1972 quarter struck over a 1964 quarter.
Coins dated 1964 were struck after 1964 still of silver. Actually coins dated 1965 were struck at the same time as coins dated 1964 . Actually, coins dated 1964 were struck well into 1966. laws pertaining to the way coins were dated were suspended during those years and the date 1964 was frozen ...so it is quite possible to have a 1965 quarter struck on a silver planchet. check this link http://www.ngccoin.com/news/enews/ngc_enews_0310oct.htm have fun, Bill Thanks, Bill
Ive never heard of a 1967 butI guess not impossible that is why there are only coins with one or two known
Come on my friend, you are old enough to remember that there were plenty of 1965 dated dimes and quarters, just not as many cents and nickels.
There are 1975 dated cents, nickels and dimes; the quarters, halves and dollar were dual dated 1776-1976 but were released starting in 1975 because I remember as a kid getting a bicentennial coin in 1975.
I was actually surprised to see a 1965 Dime in my son's collection. I thought they skipped 65 and ran 64 into 65 and restarted with 66. I guess i was wrong. Ruben
From the mint. True but the last of the 1964 dated silver coins were struck in April of 1966, as I said almost a year before the 1967 quarters were begun
