1965 DDO Kennedy Half - Hello everyone! Finished (hopefully) my final draft of my graduate thesis tonight, and decided to start poking through my rolls of Kennedy Halves in search of varieties. Found so far: 1971 D DDO 1976 D DDO (2) 1965 DDO Took some photos of the 1965...wondering if anyone wanted to venture a grade and maybe help with the attribution. From the CONECA master listings, looks like I have the -002: *Spread on 965 of date *Spread on WE TRUST *Spread on TY of Liberty I have photos of the obverse/reverse - would love some opinions on grade. Also, have a closeup of WE TRUST and the Y of LIBERTY for verification.
I don’t think your 65 DDO matches the 65 DDO-002, or anything else in the CONECA Master Listings...see attached photos of TRUST and the Y of LIBERTY of the 002. You may want to send it to James Wiles for his attribution. The third photo I attached is of a 65 DDO I had sent to Wiles in 2011 which was minor. Larry Nienaber
Larry, Thanks for your input. I'm wondering if you think this is worth sending in? (I am thinking yes due to condition...there are no significant hits on the coin, and the only damage I see are a couple places where it looks like wire/fiber impressions were struck into the coin.) In hand the doubling (even tripling in some places) is quite apparent... Also, I have a question: out of the following list, which do you think would be worth sending in for attribution and/or grading (all are roll-searching finds): 1965 DDO 1965 DDR 1971D DDO 1972 D "No FG" (2) 1973 D DDO 1974 D DDO (12) 1976 D DDO (2) 1977 D DDO (3) 1982 P "No FG" (4) 2009 P with an Edge Reeding Error…not sure if this is worth messing with.
I am the wrong person to ask about sending something in for grading. I only collect Kennedy Die Varieties using the CONECA Master Listings as a check list. I am not concerned with condition or grading. I do send some half dollars to James Wiles sometimes for attribution, looking for new listings. Larry Nienaber
