Triple die reverse/RPM. I'd like the pictures more in focus, but you've probably spent a heck of a lot of time going over it to get to this point, so I don't need more evidence really. I believe it is as you attributed it, only thing is Variety vista has it as DDR,
PCGS attributes as "TDR FS-804 (030.5)"
NGC has "variety Plus" and has it as " FS-501/804" if LDS NGC will leave off the 804 for the RPM because it's not so visible on LDS.
I think MS65 is probably fair for the guestimate at the grade from this. Nice find.
try to place a plastic bottlecap under the coin to raise it into the foreground, you might have less focusing issues by moving the object forward.
the pictures are pretty good actually, just still really hard to see in depth/detail, but that P mintmark, that looks very right to me, so it won't be LDS.
You'd have a much harder time seeing the RPM if it was LDS. Probably MDS, details aren't as sharp as they could be, and with this one, it's more of a fattening of the letters than clear cut double die, which gets worse as the die wears to just fat letters, but it's still a very decent coin.
I'm very conservative when judging my own coins, to a fault. what I'll call AU will come out MS65 or lower, but many coin dealers in my area would call it AU if it's ungraded also. Of course I'm into more modern coins, I don't have the skill where a MS64 or MS65 might matter let's say because with moderns if it's not top grade, it's just one of many many regular coins that shouldn't have been graded.
It's ok to be conservative and be pleasantly surprised, it's better than overestimating it and being disappointed. so being extra critical isn't a bad thing in my opinion. still, being wrong is being wrong, and we all strive to get it right, I just resigned my self to the idea that I have no idea how the grading companies actually settle on a grade..LOL
I feel the same way about my coins, unless I feel that I have that money to just blow, I would rather buy another coin. Then it never happens.
I didn't look at Brians wesite On Wexlers, to match this coin. What is on VV is a die stage C. Yours is not the same die stage, It is quite a bit earlier, Coneca would probably like to photo that one.
@Lehigh96 is our resident Nickel enthusiast, Nickels and TPG's are his daily game. If you want to know anything about a Jeff he is the man.
@John Burgess definitely knows his Variety's, and nailed this one on the head. It's the big one
And stick around here. We have fun helping.
Thank you very much! I just recently paid for a one year membership on Coneca for coins that I have not been able to locate as documented die varieties to hopefully have them attributed. I will post this one on there and ask them what dies stage it is. That would be really cool if they wanted to take photos of it.
