It appears to be slabbed, so I'll guess AU-58.
But if slabbed by SGS= MS-70

Why are you guys saying AU-55?
From the picture there is barely a trace of wear? Or am I missing something?

There's some wear on the knee.

Right, that's why AU-58, looks like a rub more than anything else.

What makes it 55 for me is the baggy look to the coin---the back looks great but the front seems to have a good many bag marks and hairlines--I almost said 53.
The whole coin looks well struck all that is but Lady Liberty---she just seems to be lacking something.

AU-55 Details but Net EF-45 for what appears IMHO an old dipping!

I think it's probably because of the marks in the fields. They appear to be circulation, not bag marks because they're too linear to have been caused by coins clinking together. The next step up is MS-60 and if the scratches are from circulation,it wouldn't qualify.Just a guess.:)

    OK I'll reveal the grade.

Ben and Speedy got it right. Its PCGS AU55.

I'm having secong thoughts on keeping it. I like the fact that only 1,216,000 was minted but don't like the obverse surface. In hand it looks pretty.

Well I think it is up to you---I feel it is graded right---but I also know what you mean.
If you like the coin then I don't think you can go wrong by keeping it---but if you are un-happy with it then I think you would be right in sending it back....does it ring your bell?
