Your coin is an 1875-CC and is worth considerably more than the 1875 (Philadelphia) coin. I don't know these coins very well but I would guess it would grade somewhere around F to VF. I don't know if it would slab because of the big rim ding at 8:30 on the obverse and because it appears to have been harshly cleaned. (Not sure if the scratches are on the coin or the holder.)

Coin Values lists this coin at $600 in F-12 & $750 in VF-20.

I suggest you take the coin to your local dealer and get his opinion as to grade and value.

  4. Question: Why would a ding in the rim be something to keep one from slabbing a coin?

Not if you send the coin to ANACS and want a grade! PCGS will not grade damaged or cleaned coins and the OP's coin appears to have both but they will certify them as authentic under their' new rules. NGC will not grade damaged or cleaned coins whatsoever.

Ding looks minor, I'm not sure THAT would bodybag it, maybe knock the grade down a little, but the cleaning sure would.
