I got this one in a group lot containing mostly small, old silver coins. It looks like a Spanish "cob" coin of some sort but I am having difficulty finding more exact information. The maximum diameter is 21.38mm, and the weight is 3.00 grams. I'm also wondering if it is genuine since there are a couple poor "replica" or "fantasy" coins in the lot as well - this one seems fine as far as I can tell but I'm not experienced enough to be able to know for sure. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
Could it be? This? Weight is about right OR Spain 2 Reales - Felipe III hammered - although weight seems off - should be about 6.8gms Numista CGB
Thanks! @BasSWarwick Here is an even closer match - acsearch.info - Auction research - the size and weight match pretty well. @Paddy54 Thanks! I hope it's not fake but, genuine might be too good to be true. For type, the above acsearch link seems pretty close.
You might want to contact Dan Segwick he is an expert on these...however im sure that he is most probably at the ANA world fair of money. Here's some images but nothing matches 100%
Well, that was fast! I just received a reply. Here's what he had to say: "Looks OK [as far as authenticity] and your description [Felipe II one-reale] is accurate, Seville mint (Spain). Might be clipped or shaved around the edge. Not very high in value." Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked!
Ok cool beans...I didn't want to take a shot in the dark...I knew if anyone could nail it down He be the one. that's great news.
