Well, the pro's have spoken. I will pass on this coin and hope I can someday be as knowledgeable as my guest. Thank you. Dave
Dave it's not the only one out there....you will find one better....and the hunt is as exciting as the find....good luck buddy
I would simply say go look at a lot of 32d examples in hand. They are simply made differently than most other Washingtons, and will look different. The recessed mintmark will almost always lead to dark ring around the mintmark, the obverse motto is weak, and yes, I have seen good coins with more filled mintmarks. I know I currently am not a US collector, but spent over 20 years doing so and bought a number of 32 d and s examples. This example I didn't like for you OP due to the ding, and I simply am leery a little of everything else that was said about the coin. I would need to have the coin in hand to condemn it like that.
First coin I pulled up. Here is a PCGS AU58 CAC Same MM and placement also Motto and date placement is a match. https://coins.ha.com/itm/washington...-25214.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 The rim ding is unfortunate. If it bothers, you I would pass. This is definitely a coin that I would only buy after in hand inspection or in a slab from a reputable TPG.
@Mojavedave pass on that coin for many of the reasons previously stated; notwithstanding the question of legitimacy, the hit on the Reverse Rim would keep it from straight grading.
