What is your favorite foreign government mint bullion?

As a proud American I will always consider ASEs, AGEs and Gold Buffalos to be the very best bullion coins.

But I have to say I have been very impressed with the quality of Australian Perth Mint bullion.

One thing I love about the Perth Mint bullion (Kangaroos, Kookaburras, Emus etc.,) is that the Perth Mint always seems to put a little bit more extra silver in their bullion than all the other countries I’ve tested including the US.

The average weight per coin after testing my 2x tubes of 2020 American Silver Eagles was 31.28 grams.

The average weight of my Perth Mint silver bullion coins was 31.41 grams.

I wasn’t surprised that China was the country that put the least amount of extra silver in their bullion coins. I weighed the older 1 oz bullion coins China minted prior to switching to 30 grams and many of them didn’t even contain 1 full troy oz let alone have extra.

True the extra Australia put in is not much extra and most people would absolutey not notice without a scale but I do respect the fact that the Perth Mint is extremely generous with the metal content of their bullion.

What about you guys? Not counting your home country which foreign government bullion do you like the best?

But as foreign bullions go, I'd say USA, it's due to the mint sticking to the standard regarding the designs and the fact that it's from the USA makes it reliable and 'universally recognizable'.

 

Since I have been an electronics tech for over 40 years, I like Serbia's Nikola Tesla bullion coins, and since I am also a musician, Austria's Vienna Philharmonic series appeals to me also.

 

Actual bullion i'd say none, but GB/Italy/Mexico have some beautiful numismatic coins

 

They do have a lot of great products but I think maybe a bit too much variety xD.

It’s almost impossible for me to keep up with everything they release from the Kangaroos to the Tigers to the Emus to the Kookaburras to the Platypuses and so many more.

I think they should slow down a bit so collectors don’t have to spend their entire paycheck to keep up with it all.

I like the Perth Mint (although I was disappointed when a few of the items got milk spots-still Perth bullion is more resistant compared to Canada).

Another underrated mint is Kazakhstan. They have a silver and gold bullion Irbis in several sizes (premiums are high and these are a challenge to find though in the US).

I think that it is also interesting that the Israeli mint also sells ancients.

Actually on most bullion sites like APMEX & JM Bullion you can get an Australian Gold Kangaroo cheaper than an American Gold Eagle and much cheaper than a Gold Buffalo even though all 3 contain 1 troy oz of gold.

said lower premium on the buying end
will always bring a lower if any premium
on the selling end, you pay one way or
another.

 

Thats true but you have to figure out how much the extra premium will bring you at selling time before you buy.

For example I know my local dealer pays $55 over spot for 1 oz Gold Eagles if they are still in BU condition without any obvious scratches or blemishes and he pays spot + 2% for all other foreign government bullion coins (like gold Kangaroos and gold Maple Leafs) and he only pays spot and nothing more for bars and rounds made by private refineries and private mints.

So I know that when I buy bullion and do the math to see which one would resell for the most to him based on the premiums being charged.

 

Since bullion prices change all the time
as well as premiums it would be hard
to dictate them, maybe in the short term
but for the long term investor your trying
to store and build wealth. all my Kruger’s
will be left to my kids and the years they
we’re born, as well as graduations etc
will be about $30,000 per kid in GOLD
alone based on there life goals.

 

I don’t plan on having kids so I think of my stash as a sort of emergency/retirement fund and I feel it helps me think before spending money because there is that added task of selling the bullion. Cash is so much easier to spend impulsively. Well for me anyway. Maybe not everyone.

My dog had a seizure and I took her to the vet where she got blood tests, EEGs and a 5 day vet stay..

What did I get? A $4,000 bill. I couldn’t afford to just pay all that in cash on a moment’s notice so instead I sold 4 tubes of ASEs and a 1 troy oz Gold Eagle.

Problem solved! It would’ve broke my heart if I hadn’t been able to take care of her.

 

Some items I've bought from Kazakhstan took 2-4 weeks to arrive. That's not too bad given that I've had first class mail in the US take around 2 weeks.

The premiums are high since not many are available in the US. My post was about a mint I liked though, not the mint with the lowest premium (that would be a different answer).
