Leave it to Coinweek to host some of the best articles. I love this article on collecting, and appreciating toned coins. Bravo, Greg Reynolds: https://coinweek.com/us-coins/collecting-and-appreciating-naturally-toned-coins-part-1/
Collecting for originality is a hallmark of the true stewards of the hobby. Without them, the finest remaining examples would decline in quality with every passing decade.
I fully recognize my prejudice and ignorance in the world of toning. I understand (or at least think I do) the progression of natural toning for silver though there is always that uncertainty of "well, can you really be sure this is natural toning?" It is this apprehension that always steers me back to non-toned original looking coins. Then you add copper and that just seems to be a different beast all together. Yes, I like the looks of some toned coins, but will not go out of my way to seek them for my collection until I am more experienced or knowledgeable. Still, it was a great article and thank you for posting. Good read.
