    “Standardization and Quality Control of Ancient Athenian Coinage”


    A study on the coinage standardization, quality control, and identification of fakes in ancient Athens.
    The presentation is exploring the Athenian Law on Silver Coinage and the material testing methodologies used at that time. Ancient inscriptions are presented supported by photographic evidence.


    Dr. George Anastasopoulos, is a Mechanical Engineer with an MSc and a Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois with extended experience in testing and characterization of materials. He is the Vice President of the International Accreditation Service (IAS), a global accreditation body headquartered at Brea, California.
    He is a coin collector since his early youth with emphasis on ancient Greek and Byzantine Period coins. He is a member of the American Numismatic Society (ANS), American Numismatic Association (ANA), Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), Numismatic Association of Southern California (NASC), and Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles (ACCLA).
