Everything I'm seeing is damage but I don't have a clue of what caused it.

Hi Jennis, First, Welcome to Coin Talk !!

About the coin, it is heavily damaged, so it becomes difficult to separate the Good, from the Bad, or the Ugly, if there is any Good there.
IF there were good there, it might be that, since the large area to the South and West of Jeff's head appears to be raised, it could be, and I repeat, COULD BE (but not likely), a large cud. A cud is an area of excessive metal that starts at the rim and, usually, moves inwards.
Please don't get your hopes up. Cuds this large are very rare. This most likely is just damage, but like Idhair, I don't know what caused it. Hang in there because we have some members who are very experienced with errors and they will be along shortly, with much more knowledgeable information. In the meantime, let me leave you with some info about cuds, which will help get you started on your journey down the road to Coin Zen, and I will also call up some of the Masters who have the knowledge you seek :

No Cud there. A Cud would be smooth.
