Now that I have the coin bug. I started searching through my change bucket some more and found a 1982 D penny which appears it may be a small date? I have another 82 as well and the 8's look different. The top of the 8 on one looks like a smaller circle than the bottom and the other one looks the same top and bottom.

Weigh it to see if it’s copper or zinc.

What is the weight that I need to look for? Thanks!

It is a large date. 3.11 grams means copper and 2.5 means zinc. There are large and small dates for both varieties.

He has posted photos of two different coins. One is the small date and one is the large date. I don't know which one he is asking about.

Well, it will have one digit separated by a dot from two other digits. ;););););)

LOL, I didn't even look at his other pictures. I just looked at the closeup with the date.

But yeah, the close up of the date is a large date, and the other one is a small date.

Assume it is an ordinary penny, worth 1 cent. Jeez, everybody thinks they have a variant. Is this official variant month?

He has a 1982 D small date zinc with plating damage by the mintmark (common occurrence) that looks like it is allowing zinc rot to set in.
