every time we hear that there is not a single mark. There is a lot to coin grading that you'll have to pick up on.

As for the very first coin, wow! It certainly should have been a 'details cleaned'.

Me, blunt? I am such a warm, toasty guy. :). Seriously, this is a knowledgeable community of people who care about each other. We are happy to help new people learn. However, learning goes two ways. The new people that are happiest here come to this site graciously, and with a sincere desire to learn. We’ve all been hit with information we did not like, in/re our individual expertise. The question is, where does one go from there? Does the new person approach this place as a valuable resource, or a place to complain? I think the lesson to be learned here is humility, and most of all, sincerity.

im curious what you paid for these cleaned morgans you sent in... BEFORE the ANACS cost (which was a good choice)

grading is a grey area at best, all you have is a paid opinion on a coin not much else

now one can disagree with the opinion but it's a expert opinion and those are hard to judge why the graders gave that grade to that coin we can guess but really we will never really know why they gave that grade to the coin

many different factors are involved in grading a coin and sometimes it's a hit and miss on grading

I can't figure out grading either. To my untrained eye this 62 has more hits and abrasions than your coin, but I assume I'm missing something. SmartSelect_20210416-202111_Chrome.jpg

you are being suckered in by the harsh cleaning. I agree that ANACS errored, but the error is that coinshould have been a details coin all the way.

Have you seen what the luster looks like on a 65? Yours doesn't show that

You should find good photos to compare your coins to. And forget about anacs. Whoever wants to flame me go ahead. But I compare anacs to others and there's no comparison for me personally. There's more difference in grade than marks. You have to look at the coin as a whole. The strike, details are sharper on higher mint state coins. Imagine the brand new die ok. It is perfect. It strikes coin 1 makes a perfect strike. By the time coin 100 comes along it has struck 99 already. Each time it gains the slightest wear. Compare coin 100 to coin 1. The die has some wear. Not much but now it's 1 point lower. And so on. You're comparing a dime that wasn't packed into a treasury bag like a Morgan. Doesn't weigh nearly what a Morgan does. If you really understood those coins and how they were made, handled, you wouldn't be here spewing this nonsense. Having many coins doesn't make one more educated. Learning about the ones you acquire does

I too have been very disappointed with grades that I have received in years past. The more I learn about grading as the years go by when I look at those coins now I realized that they were correct. Thanks to the many very knowledgeable folks on CT my grading skills are much improved.

Your coin is not cleaned. It just has bagmarks. The OP coin has obvious cleaning evidence. Yours does not have evidence of cleaning. It is a lustrous, typically baggy BU Morgan. Nice coin!

the graders see the issues us collectors miss cause we aren't trained in the art of coin grading like they are

any flaw or issue they will notice it and grade according to what they feel the coin deserves with whatever issue or flaw it has

as i said grading is a hit and miss idea, sometimes the graders get it right , other times they don't

:( this is not even a coherent thought. We criticize graders all the time, but restrain from the ferocity of this diabrib. The examples posted by the original poser thusly are not supporting the vitriol that is spew at ANACs. If you don't trust them, don't use them. But what is being posted with regard to individual examples are not out of range of the variation of all the grading companies. There are far more well thought out criticisms of TPGer within this forum and on far better grounds, and they run across the spectrum of slabs and coins. Thank you for your contribution.

@Jennifer Bond I joined CT in 2018 and never really posted much and when I did I was taken to task for a stupid comment I made and in hindsight, rightly so. I learned from my mistake, yet periodically put my foot back in my mouth. I did not realize how much I did not know about this hobby until after a number of months following along and picking up info. Everyone has a bad day. Chalk it up to that and stick around. You will be glad you did. An important lesson I learned is to listen and not to be quick with a response when a comment doesn't meet your expectations because you cannot take back a post once you click 'post reply.' One of the best categories, IMO, is GTG. Usually @Morgandude11, along with others, offers some interesting Morgans. It is worth attempting to grade them because many members list their grade and the most important part, the reason(s) for their choice. You should try it because it helps reading info. from experienced CT'ers.
