I bought this coin on eBay and found some discoloration on it. And a black dot like thing on the rim. It’s graded a ms-70. And the mark shows on NGC’s website. Should I return it?
Thank you Potty.. My concern is that it will deteriorate through time and lose its value. I’m not super ok with the the black dot but I’ll keep it if it won’t lose its value. I find the slight discoloration a bit intriguing.
I can't speak to the possibility of deterioration (Lincolns aren't in my wheelhouse), but if you think you're going to continue wrestling with doubt about your purchase, then probably better to return it and keep looking. And welcome to CT.
Thank you. I don’t know enough about the coin to just return it. If it’s going to deteriorate yes. But I find the coloring interesting.
NGC's grades for coppers are only guaranteed for 10 years from encapsulation. So keep that in mind when deciding on returning it or not. You can read the full text (paragraph 8b) in NGC's guarantee https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/ngc-guarantee/
I think you may want to keep it. After all the coin graded ms70 with that dot on it and you said it even showed in the NGC pic. Truly, it's not that big of a deal at all. That said, its your money and your right to return it, if you want, your choice.
If the edge is nicked and it was my coin, I'd return it. If it's not nicked and the black mark was a piece of dirt or something, I'd probably keep it. If that black mark is something permanent on the coin, would it get a 70 if you tried to cross it over?
The mark is not that big of a deal to me. The date of the coin and the price paid would be a factor in deciding if to return it.
Whats a mark shark? Does that mean I’m being picky? If so thank you lol. I want my nephews to enjoy this coin in 50-75 years. That little black dot could ruin that lol.. I’m ok with the dot and the look of the coin. I’m too new to make these decisions on my own. I’m intrigued by the coloring.
I didn't find much in auction results. Not that many out there in MS-70. I'm sure that's going to change over the next few years.
At this point you are the best grader, follow your intuition or speak to a local Numismatist, if there is one in your in your area. Good luck
If you had to take the time to post this question you already thought about it too much. If you're not sure and can send it back send it back. Once you had a bad feeling about a coin you'll never enjoy it. That's my 2 cents...
I’m not sure if I’ve had a bad feeling yet. Just unsure and I have a lot of questions. Im going to have a second look at it.
I just bought a coin and the variety was wrong by pcgs. It had already been to cac. Now it really needed a new holder and a new cac. I just sent it back. And I really loved the coin too. I'm glad it's gone though for what it was
