Yeah so the Morgan toner market still appears to be strong at least for the bag toners or higher end coins. This one that recently closed is a lower grade unc 1883 O, common date. The toning is very nice yet it went for $900+ almost a 30x premium compared to a raw untoned example. Not sure if there's much if any meat left on the bone once this coin gets slabbed, but I just think its crazy that a raw coin can command such a premium. What are your thoughts on the toner market or this coin in particular? Do you think morgan toners are softening or remaining firm? Considering Aurora Borealis listed several of his coins for sale recently. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1883-O-Morgan-Silver-Dollar-Rainbow-Toned/324503285348?hash=item4b8de72e64:g:kNIAAOSwCSVgPVy1
Not softening. Growing over the past year with no end in sight. I like that coin, but I would only pay crazy moon money for a true monster personally. The vast majority are all tucked away in collections and not often seen for sale, and owned by people with way more money than me. I’ll stick to my modestly color toned original type coins and happy I can still afford a really nice one now and then.
Toning market has been strong for decades when it has the right look. I’m not sure why it would be surprising when historically they have always brought strong prices. There’s no reason to think they won’t continue to do so
Ill sell you mine for that price, its not toned just want to have those profit margins! I stay away from toners... get ready for AT infiltration even worse than it already is.
That "Cat's Eye" doesn't surprise me at all! It had to sit in an original bag for a long time, partially covered by another coin, to acquire that toning. I don't recall that I've ever seen one that pretty on these forums.
You're right but theres a fine line and as the market explodes everyone is gonna be trying to find a way to multiply the profit by throwing their ASEs with crushed up matches or whatever. I don't mind NT but this is just too much for me personally. It's an opinion, sorry. Theres a fine line that gets straddled and I think isn't clear enough. You have to guess and pray people at the TPG would be happy that day?
Silver Eagles and Morgan Dollars are two different things. When was the last time you saw a 35 year-old Mint bag of 1986 SAE's?
I think I'm going to buy some junk morgans and get colorful... really??? And imagine if this had free shipping? What a crook. It ends in 10 minutes better bid quick!
