    Hi Fellow Coin Fans!

Thought you all would like to know that the U.S. Mint recently reveiled designs for the 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Silver Dollar, a limited edition collector’s coin that will be available for purchase beginning in January. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each coin will help build the nation’s first permanent memorial dedicated to disabled veterans – the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington D.C. I read that to be placed on the early notification list when the coin becomes available for sale, please send an email request to info@dvlmf.org.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I know not to do that, but is the commemorative actually coming out?

    Seems to be so.

The website appears to be legitimate, but I still wouldn't use an email link supplied by an unknown poster.

Yes the coin IS coming out , but you know what this is don't you? Does anyone here really think they will know when the coin is going to be available for sale before we will?

What this is is a marketing campaign on behalf of the Disabled Veterans For Life Memorial Foundation to try and encourage the sale of as many of these coins as possible. Why? Because THEY are the people who will be receiving the surcharge money and the more coins sold the more surcharge money.

Secondly it lets them build a "begging list" to solicit for donations. Why? Because in order to receive that surcharge money, they have to raise matching funds. My guess is if they can get you to get information about the coin through them and possibly buy it, then you are probably an easier mark to solicit a donation from for the cause.

I agree with Conder, the e-mail is probably not tied to the mint in any way shape or form. Keep away unless you want spam begging for funds coming back to you.

Not saying this will happen but why take the chance.

I only wish this were a good thing.

But I see no evidence in that direction at this point.

The Disabled American Veterans is my favorite charity. I would much rather see the surcharge money go to helping them and their famiilies personally than some superfluous extravagance and uneeded statue. What a waste!

I agree, it is a good charity. There is enough about the coin I don't like that I would rather just make a straight donation and avoid the coin.

Sounds good, especially since the DAV and the DVLMF are not the same organization. One helps the veterans and the other helps themselves and builds a monument. (Guess which one gets the surcharge money.)

Is that really going to be the obverse?? "They stood up for us" with 3 pairs of legs. Are the viewers supposed to be on their knees looking at their feet? What an awful design.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but I concur 100%. One of the worst designs I have ever seen. Although, the reverse is cool.

As a veteran I like the cause. But I agree that they could have done something with the OBV that is a little more honorable than boots and a crutch.
    This design is very disappointing.
I would like to see the designs that did not make the cut. Has anyone seen any?
