Hi guys, I have this 1940 S Lincoln Wheat 'Woody' Penny and noticed that the word "Trust" and top parts of the "WE" are completely missing and that the rim is slightly thinner at this point (The rim/edge on the left of the Rim Photo's is slightly thinner) Would this be considered a tapered rim? The coin weighs 3.05 grams. If this is not a tapered rim error, can someone explain how the words "Trust" became wiped off the face of the coin. The details on the rest of the coin look good. Would the improper mixture of alloy have something to do with the missing letters?
Hello.. I'm going to say yes to Improperly Mixed Alloy Planchet but no to Tapered Planchet. IMHO Neat.
Appears to me as a tapered planchet. Rolled thin at the end of a strip. What say @Fred Weinberg, @JCro57 or others?
