before u think i have insulted the whole community read this. dumb is a numismatic term Perhaps you didn't know that "dumb" is a legitimate numismatic term? Actually, it has two distinctly different meanings and both are used often enough to cause some confusion for the collector. read more here http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=6556 now tell me how many of u knew what dumb meant and are dumb coin coin collectors cheers King Spock
I'm pretty sure I'm not a "dumb coin" collector, not even unknowingly. How ever I have been a "dumb" coin collector. My greatest claim to dumb fame was my first experiences with whizzed Mercury's. They looked ever so shiney. Cool information, thanks for sharing! Allen
I've been called the dumbest of the dumb. Now I see that meant that in the nicest possible way ! Funny story... I once saw a leading Large Cent expert do a ring test on a coin. He just dropped it right onto the glass top of his case. The coin ? A VF Chain cent, worth close to $20,000. Passed the test, BTW.
Well, I've been 'rung' a few times and I do have a crack even though I'm 100% genuine. So I suppose I am a "dumb" collector. And oh yeah, wizzed Mercs. My hand is raised..... Rick L.
I wouldn't have been insulted in any event. Made so many dumb mistakes when buying coins. Have probabaly paid 2 or 3 times what my collection is actually worth. And that wasn't deliberate either. Was just a bit reckless starting out. There's a steep learning curve with this hobby.:crying:
So today I learned something. The more I get to know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I used to know.
