Perhaps you didn't know that "dumb" is a legitimate numismatic term? Actually, it has two distinctly different meanings and both are used often enough to cause some confusion for the collector.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a "dumb coin" collector, not even unknowingly.

How ever I have been a "dumb" coin collector. My greatest claim to dumb fame was my first experiences with whizzed Mercury's. They looked ever so shiney.

I've been called the dumbest of the dumb. Now I see that meant that in the nicest possible way !

Funny story... I once saw a leading Large Cent expert do a ring test on a coin. He just dropped it right onto the glass top of his case.

The coin ? A VF Chain cent, worth close to $20,000.

Passed the test, BTW.

 

I can honestly say I'm not a Dumb Collector but ask Hobo, I think he is.

Well, I've been 'rung' a few times and I do have a crack even though I'm 100% genuine. So I suppose I am a "dumb" collector. And oh yeah, wizzed Mercs. My hand is raised.....

I wouldn't have been insulted in any event. Made so many dumb mistakes when buying coins. Have probabaly paid 2 or 3 times what my collection is actually worth. And that wasn't deliberate either. Was just a bit reckless starting out. There's a steep learning curve with this hobby.:crying:

So today I learned something.
The more I get to know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I used to know.

 

I will say that I am a Booby Head collector. I just love those large cents!

 

I guess I don't collect dumb coins? Very confusing to read...
