Possibly Arabian. Andy, it is sooooooooo much easier to identify a coin when you can look at both sides. Pleeeeeeeeees start posting both sides with your inquiries. Coins/medals that have been holed for jewelry invariably have the hole at the top of the obverse, which puts them at either the top or the bottom of the reverse. It is often easier to ID a coin from a correctly oriented picture. Please don't take this as anything but constructive criticism, aimed at helping you improve your chances of getting valid answers.
I don't believe this is a coin, I think it is a jewelry piece. And unfortunately Roy is wrng in this cae about the hole placement. If the first picture was oriented correctly the hole would be at the 4 o'clock position. It is based on the coins issued in Turkey (In the first picture the script reads Was struck in Constantinople.) It is dated AH1222, but it doen't match any of the coins issued during that period. The toughra on the reverse is much cruder than any coins from that period. There is a chance that it could be some kind of token.
So whoever made the hole didnt know where the top was ? invariably whenever a coin is holed for jewelry the one making the hole should know the top from the bottom or the sides . Rick
Hi condor, thanks for the info.Is the date genuine. And would it carry any value. If not its going in the bin. Thanks Andrew (UK)
There's no way to know if the date is contemporary or not. If it is a jewelry piece it would probably only be worth whatever the metal value is.
