My other interest is making models which always takes back see to ancient coins. Attached are two photos of an A-10 US Airforce ground support aircraft. It has gone through many iterations during its quite long career. It was to be retired but couldn't find a replacement. The attachment shows another aircraft. Both are the same scale 1/72nd for reference. It is of a captured WWII German jet called the "Peoples Fighter" as it was made of plywood. Came too late to do the Germans any good. It's in Russian colours as it was captured by them shortly before the end of the war. It technical title is HE162A-2 Voksjager. It was called the Salamander.
I have a big collection of autographs. Mostly modern stars & a few vintages. But the one I have displayed prominently is of the late actress, Carole Landis (1919 - 1948) along with a few vintage photos of her. A rough life similar to Marilyn Monroe, but before Marilyn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carole_Landis It was thanks to my dads' love of old movies that I saw classic movies growing up and she became my favorite that I am still partial with to this day. Childhood memories I suppose.
I am the family genealogist. I can sound out enough Russian and have enough understanding of Lithuanian naming customs and place names to transliterate, then connect the information to modern day places. Here is an example of one birth record from the 1890s. Maybe a Russophone on here will comment the contents, even though it is not important.
I have been the "family genealogist" since I was in high school. It's a good thing that I talked to all my elderly relatives back then, or I'd know a lot less today.
Thirding 'Family Genealogist.' Except, from a medieval kind of place, that segues seamlessly into heraldry, castellology, and all kinds of history, political, cultural and social. ...As in, 'Which one?' 'Yes.' ...Back to family genealogy (Nope, Not a preemptive oxymoron), I'm the only one left who still pursues it, and who won't believe anything he finds on the internet. ...Or, if you switch to the other side of the family, who just Won't Believe Anything you Say.
I have way, too many interests. Coins is my first love, but my first love was building aircraft models, as you may guess if you look at my picture, which is a U.S. Navy F-4B Phantom II on a platform waiting to take off. I'm 72 and have over 100 models yet to be built, which will never be done. I use to run/jog after serving in the 82nd, until I got knocked down a ravine by a truck causing me to have 5 back surgeries and two knee surgeries. Now I love to walk in the country with my Australian Shepherd. Like I said, wayyyy too many interests. Thanks to all that shared.
Yes, the same here as I have connected faces and memories to people who were otherwise just a name and two dates, no photos, not much info. I am procrastinating my philosophy paper, so if I remember and people want to hear I can share a story of such happenings
I can do very little. Like I mentioned, I can transliterate places and names with good accuracy. The Cyrillic cursive took practice. The note I attached holds the information here. Jurgis Šaltis, born 18 sep 1891 in Pavežiai village. This place does not exist anymore, but the name of the village means it is on the river north of Užventis, Lithuania. Parents are Jurgis Šaltis and Aleksandra Tautkevičiūtė
My father's family came from Lithuania as well. Jurbarkas. For obvious reasons, I have no relatives there anymore.
