I received in change today a beautifully red toned 2005 US penny with a "silver" rim - is this a mint error? Has anyone in cointalk forum seen this type of error before ? Any idea of its value ? contact <macdgionet@gwi.net>

In case of unseen linked pictures here are 2 attachments

Your coin looks like a 'caught in half way' to be as that coin above.

"Silver" rimmed 2005 US Penny (Better Photos)

Here are 2 better photos - the blue cast to the rim is from the lighting conditions in this antique barn .

The odds are that the copper plating on the cent has been removed (or worn off) and the zinc core is showing. No additonal value, as this is damage.

This is what one of the plated cents looks like after it has been caught in one of the components of a commercial, laundromat clothes dryer. Lookl like many I've seen that were removed from inside the "fins" of a dryer.
    Thanks,

plus the person that stated that actually has a coin as your link.

They were not asking about an offset strike.
if you look above on the thread you'll see completely different coin that has been damaged .. from 14 years ago.

In 14 years the coin probably does not even exist anymore as it probably stared corroding and ate itself a long time ago.
