You know in the sixtys they used to paint coins at arcades not sure exactly why, maybe for the attendants. I just searched a case of kennedys and found around 75 with felt pen markings mostly on kennedys ear any ideas?

I recently bought this coin, seller stated it was embedded blue plastic. Looking at it under scope it is hard to tell. I was wondering if there was a way to tell besides scratching the blue substance?

I found a few with that mark too. Some searches mark the coins they search so they will know if they get them again. sounds like the coins you got were re-rolled from somebody's dump.

About the blue dot.......try a little alcohol (hand sanitizer)on it with a Q tip. If plastic, the alcohol should gum it up enough to be removed. Maybe a hot water bath would too IDK.

Aceatone dip and rinse with detailed water. It should remove the blue.... whatever it is...

So Mike185 if the seller said it was "struck thru plastic" and I bought it at a premium I should send it back? I know it's what ever I want to pay is what it's worth and I did think it might be unique since Kennedy was shot. I have not done the acetone test yet.

Places that have machines that take coins used to mark their coins because it would let them know that they paid for the game, so they aren't counted in that day's take. As an example; Some bars, with pool tables, etc..., still do it, so when someone says they lost a quarter in the machine machine, so they know its theirs and not profit.

I have seen coins "marked" in different marker or paint. With this coin it was sold as struck thru plastic. Hard to for me to tell if it is actually plastic into the coin or paint. I guess I need to know if it is possible to even be plastic(how could that happen at mint? )

If you can send it back do so now. Don't mess with that coin. Just return and get your money back.

When you seen an ad Olive this, ask yourself, how could blue plastic be embedded in minting process?

besides slot machines possibly taking half dollars, what arcade used 50 cent coins??

I found it, sorry I was snooping.
I think you paid a bit much for it. But I think the seller has a great ebay reputation and been selling on there since 2005.
And I found them on the internet by their ebay ship from location, it's a legitimate coin and bullion dealer with it's own website as well, I mean it's more of an "about us" website but so is the coin dealers site near me so it means nothing really.

Personally, I think it adds a bit more credibility to it, but again, I think you paid a bit much for it. If you intend to return it, it's going to be hard if you tampered with the cardboard 2x2. Dealers generally won't take back something that's not in it's original packaging as they sent it. Just saying.

He did end up giving me a 35% discount as well, when I bought it. I give all props to the seller for offering free returns and no question for return. Just will wait for another coin. The seller had very good reviews. Waiting on another coin I purchased from same seller, The 5 dollar Canadian "Lone Wolf". MS70.

This could possibly be a retained strike thru . All kinds of things can end up getting struck thru with the coin dies when it gets between the dies and a coin blank. I have a quarter that has what looks like a bunch of small retained aluminum flakes struck thru on it. Aluminum is a white color and is easy to see when struck into a coin. A retained strike thru will usually have a tiny sunken in line around the retained piece.
