Have Capped Bust Half Dimes Become Very Popular?

I've been organizing my Capped Bust Half Dimes, ID'ing the die marriages and putting them in new 2x2's.
At the same time I'm searching the auction sites and eBay looking for ones I don't yet have.
    I'm mostly after VF/XF coins.

With Stack's, Heritage and GC it's reasonably easy to ID the die marriages because they have good images.
Unfortunately as expected their offerings tend more to the AU/MS quality.
So they cost more than I want to pay.
But their VF/XF listings, even the Details coins, I find to be over priced.

eBay on the other hand lists LOTS of them in the grades I want (at least according to the seller).
But the main problem is that the images on eBay are generally so terrible that I can't ID the die marriages.
And the ones I DO find that I can identify and want are IMO over priced.

    So back to the title:
Have Capped Bust Half Dimes Become Popular?
Or does my pricing need to be re-thought?

Without specific examples it's impossible to say, but in general if you think something is over priced everywhere it's very likely time to update your pricing.

I haven't paid under $60 in good to fair condition in quite some time now....if you can find them at a show. Vf-20 and up you are going to pay up. I buy or trade for any cap bust half dime that I can aquire at a fair price.
Most dealers you and I both know here in Maryland tell me they dont get the opportunity to obtain type coins as such ,and when they do its because collectors like you and I have passed on.
I've worked at shows where a person would ask if I knew if any bust quarters were available in the room ? Someone wanting one for a type set.
I am fortunate to know so many dealers working the shows and many know me well enough and what I collect. So yeah while setting up before the show opens they will show me and give me a fair price, even some wholesalers come to me also and offer me coins.
But the last few times they have their inventory isn't anything to write home about.
Now I will buy within reason , but Ralph who runs the show had a seated h-10 proof dime
I mistaken priced at $90 as the obv. Was perfect however the rev. Was atotal mess with huge gouges of missing medal , i had asked him to hold it for me until after the show , so he said what do you want to about it ? I said as soon as i can get to an atm I'll give you the $90 bucks...Ralph said 90 bucks thats 900.00 bucks its a very low mintage.
I was like pass...buying a problem coin eyes wide open at a doable price is one thing... paying close to a grand isnt happening. And that one still sits in his inventory.
So to answer your question til one of us pass on and our collection is back in the market ...no you wont find them...and yeah I feel your pain as i buy any I can afford with the hopes of finding a marriage I dont have....but to be honest even after I sit down and do the attribution if it is one I have, I still keep it, instead of cutting it loose again.....why because you just dont find them .
So to answer your question if they become popular no they become hard to obtain until a collection like mine is sold after my passing.
And yes their prices like any thing else that is hard to find will pay up.

I like the Capped Bust Half Dimes, but my interest never got to the point of collecting them indepth. I am still looking for the "perfect" type coin.

It would be cool to find a really nice 1829. From what I've read, the move to from the first to the second Philadelphia Mint was phased affair. Supposedly, the first coins struck at the new mint were some 1829 half dimes. The official move came on January 1, 1833.

Could you please share a closer image of that 1832? Looks like a nice original cameo.

    I've got a 2-coin tie for my best, both AU-58 (1833 LM-09 & 1835 LM-10).
One of them is used in my type set.

I'd like to get an MS-63 or -64 for my type set but that's $1,000 to $1,500.
I'd want to see it in hand which means the November Whitman Show (if it happens) otherwise the Spring Whitman Show.

Short answers are "Yes" and "Yes".

Starting about a month ago I began a collection of Capped Bust Half Dimes by Red Book variety. The collection goals are:

    1) Slabbed by PCGS or NGC, although raw might be OK under certain conditions.
    2) Grade range AU-55 to MS-63, with a lean to early die state, toned, and nice coins for the grade including CAC.
    3) A small prejudice for better/scarcer die marriages in the event that I choose later to expand my collecting scope to die varieties.

So far, I have purchased four coins to add to the 1836 MS-63 I already had in my Type Set. Two were direct purchases from APMEX, one was from a Great Collection auction, and one was a direct purchase from the Steve Crain Fixed Price List sale. I have also been checking eBay auctions and Heritage.

I think I perceive that prices for coins in my target categories are higher than the price guides would project and that auction results are also higher than last years by more than inflation. Can I quantify this? No, it is merely my gut feel based upon a very limited sample.

Of interest perhaps is that Greysheet (please don't inundate me with your opinions of Greysheet, we all know its limitations) has not shown any increase or decrease in values for this category from September, 2019 to date (as far back as I checked).

I do see them at auctions I attend (or used to attend before the crazy times) in your grade range. I haven't seen them going for exorbitant prices. I've never tried to attribute them by die variety, though. Maybe I should look into that..
