Found this 38’ S nickel today. Appears in fairly decent shape,,given the age. Any guess on what it’s is, value if any? Thanks
That is a pretty one for sure. Sad to think that somebody somewhere likely had to take apart a nickel collection and put that one back into circulation..... That is not a mint state nickel. And even a mint state 1938-S Jefferson is a low value coin. I would guess maybe five bucks to somebody that needs to fill that hole in their book maybe. Coins like that don't have nearly as much intrinsic value as they do historic value. Nice find though.
It's a nice $5 coin. You should keep it because it's not worth selling on ebay after the fee and postage etc.
And this is the heart break of Jefferson nickels....as the specimen in question is a extremely nice coin....but unless near perfect no one wants them....and values are slim.... And the coin posted is an honest Skin Jefferson.
Having searched, sometimes in vain, for AU or BU grade nickels (Buffalo) I think if you put that one away, some years down the road, someone will pay more than $5 for that nickel. Right now, it's just a nice nickel, but later, who knows?
I sell raw Jeffersons on E-Bay and ship them using an A2 envelope (basically a thank you card) with a first class postage stamp. The stamp is $0.55, envelope $0.28, and E-Bay fees around $0.75 for a $2.50 coin which is basically my break even point. It helps me get rid of cheap BU Jeffersons and allows album collectors to buy a coin with a quality photograph instead of a crappy stock photo. There are some weeks that my cheapie coins out perform my graded registry quality material.
