Never got a coin or bill graded before. Is it worth grading this low mintage? 97.5% "coolness factor" on bill checker

No. It may be a low serial number to you, but three leading zeros is not considered low to collectors. It doesn’t make sense to grade this note. That “Coolness Factor” is rubbish, and paper money collectors do not use the term mintage...that’s a coin thing.

Not really- the serial number isn't low enough. Keep it- it's still pretty cool, and looks like it came from the beginning of a pack. Usually, serial numbers below 1000 are coveted by collectors.

I only have 1 banknote lower than that serial. Unless I specifically purchase a note online with a low serial it's hard to get my hands on something lower than 10,000.

    I'm in agreement with @SteveInTampa
The serial # might be cool to you, and possibly even someone else. But a premium for that note might be a dollar or two. Even with a decent grade (which would be difficult in that condition), the premium wouldn't come close to covering your costs on grading.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been a silver collector for a while and moved to non silver coins and figured I'd try my hand at star notes and what not.great info!

I believe minimum of 5 leading zeros. Some serious collectors say 6 leading zeroes.

I like to do multiple things with my collection. Moving to 1 thing just doesn't do it for me ;)

I respect the idea of it, but realistically how would one of those show up in your pocket unless you actually looked for one? I suppose it's possible but I bet it hasn't happened to most members of this site.

How is anything going to show up if you're not looking for it?

I was just assuming the OP stumbled across the note in a random exchange of hands. If that's the case it's pretty low to me and it's honestly different than doing an ebay search on a low serial banknote. And this can take the fun away from getting a surprise note in your wallet.

Thanks for clearing that up. Over a period of 2 years of gathering random notes from grocery stores I have seen only two stars and one note close to 10k serial. I always actually ask for cash back.

That bill is not anywhere near low enough to make it pay.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad for the member. A little sugar on a cool find can build a new note saver up.

My system is to trade my searched boxes for new boxes of coins. But when they have low inventory or unable to trade, I just trade for straps of $1 or $5 to search through. Then next week, I'll buy coins again with my cash. So never have to pull from account. Easier for tellers.

Yeah I am keeping all of my star dollars (only have like 8 right now... and one $100 star), W quarters (and other W coins), silver coinage, or "cool" finds. Started my step daughter into coin collection and shes hooked. So we are keeping everything to build up her collection then later on she can pick and choose what to keep/trade.
