There is a hobo nickel carving class at the ANA summer seminar and scholarships are available. Check the ANA's site at money.org

Ike, Than's a fantastic score :D! How appropriate to see this on a WWI era German coin. John Hughey is a very gifted artist . Thanks for sharing ;).

Here is a "Hobo Nickle" dime. It was carved in 2017 by Aaron Lujan. I like to just call this coin art.

That insignia is period correct for the Army Air Corps - 5th Air Force. Maybe it was made in Australia. Don't know if that is where the 5th deployed. The Army Air Corps became the US AIR FORCE in 1947 and the AIR FORCE does not wear shoulder sleeve insignia on their dress uniforms. They mainly wear pocket patches on their BDUs and flight jackets. You can see the full color patch on ebay or Wikipedia.

Jersey magic man, I like your Roosevelt dime, & the fact that it's signed & you know who the artist is gives it greater importance :D. Thanks for posting it ;). You're right, all these coins are indeed coin art, however, "Hobo Nickle Art" gives these coins greater identity since they follow the path of the Hobo Nickel carvers. The coin Aaron Lujan chose to work is much more difficult to work with than a Buffalo nickel because of its thinness & the fact that it's made from layered metal.

Ike, your impressive 10 pfennig coin coin transcends "Hobo Nickel Art" by making a political statement ;). My father was born in Bochum, Germany in 1909 & knew the devastating effect of Germany losing WWI & the horrendous inflation that followed it. He managed to flee Germany in 1932 with a couple of small gold coins in his pocket & ended up in Rochester, NY. He didn't know a word of English but managed to get a job in a German restaurant as a dish washer shortly after arriving there. The German community was very strong in Rochester & they found a small room where he could stay until he could afford an apartment. The stock market crash of 1929 created a world wide depression & any kind of job was difficult to find in those days. I give the "old man" a lot of credit for immigrating in those though days & becoming successful :D.

I just received new carvings from Mr. Hughey.

These carvings are based on the awesome poster art for Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982).

And I really like this nifty little arrowhead piece....

Ike, those are great editions to your museum caliber collection :D! John Hughey, is without doubt, one of the best Hobo nickel carvers working presently ;). My favorites are Blind Rage & Pandemic #2. Not only are they superbly carved, but his use of patination makes them even scarier :nailbiting:. Thanks for posting.
