Sent a bunch to ANACS on their latest special and as usual the results weren’t what I expected. A lot of them were early coins that would probably be difficult to sell raw so I was mainly looking for confirmation that they were genuine. This one is really nice in hand so let’s compare your thoughts with their grade.
I wasn’t asking but there are a lot of people who trust TPGs instead of themselves. I sent in 15 coins, 7 of them dated between 1795-1807, and all 15 are genuine.
I'm one of them. No way could I verify or confirm if your coin is genuine or fake. I mean it looks real but I could easily be fooled. I'm not an expect.
I know my stuff, but I also know when I should rather let a professional make the call. The ‘38 large cent appears to be a problem-free low AU coin. ANACS called it AU-Details, right? Eng damage? PVC damage?
AU55, but ANACS cannot grade copper consistently IMO. They often undergrade these days, in my experience.
I think they’ve been tight for a little while to try and get a reputation back but I don’t think it’s working.
IMO ANACS graded this correctly. "Grade Deflation" is real and the so called top two TPGs have been the guilty ones. Maybe ANACS will start a trend in properly grading coins, especially in the MS category.
I’m at a loss as to why everyone thinks this coin is undergraded, there is very little remaining luster.
