So my question is... what would be the effects of putting a coin in one of those plastic coin books. Would that tone a coin over time with out hurting the vaule and or would it negitively effect the coin. Iam not looking to add value persay to my coin but i just like the rainbow toning on coins and dont want to damage OR decress value for whenever or if ever my kids sell them off or what not. It kind of depends on where you store them I think. I have some that were stored in a hot attic and they were very toned! Some in a damp basement and they just got mildewy but not toned. Others in a cool dry house and stayed the same over years. So from my experience, leave them in a hot attic for decades, and they will be toned. But I am not sure that is the best idea, and I am not sure you want to wait decades!
Here’s the deal. I have a Mercury dime set that was started in the 1960’s in a cardboard Whitman folder. All the dimes that have been in that folder since it was began display some toning. Some are sort of pretty. Most are black and terminal. Toning in a folder will happen. The results are entirely a gamble.
