I have no concern over this being a DD because its not. Period. But I run across MD sometimes that to me is "nice". Most IMO are not real interesting but some are. Its really cool to me when its super clear and has effects on lots of devices. Its worthless poor mans doubling but on occasion Im a fan of poor and worthless I suppose. I'd rather find a few of these to check out then nothing!

Glad Im not alone! That quarter really shows! I love finding old quarters with IGW totally wacked with MD. I realize the trophy is in legit DDs but I would lose interest quick if thats all I enjoyed finding. I actually keep my better ones in a marked jar.

Some MD can be pretty fun and look quite clean.-

As for the trophy being legit doubled dies, I don't know. I don't think so for anything in the last 20 years. It was fun to find one, but once you do find one in newer coins they are so minor and can't be seen without a loupe. The last 5,000 coins I've gone through I never even bothered looking for DD. I did however get a kick looking at some of the MD I found instead (not that I kept them or anything except for 1 or 2).

There is several different types of Machine Doubling on error-ref.com. It does make for an interesting study.

I think once I started "respecting" MD coins and really appreciating them, it made my brain become more honest about what I was seeing. It made hunting more fun for me and I found more coins that interested me. I stopped trying so hard to find a DD and stopped posting as many coins looking for positive results. Funny if I look at who commented here...you guys dont post a whole lot of coins checking for DDs that are clearly PMD or MD or whatever. Maybe not necessarily liking MD but having a little respect for what it is makes a person more honest in what they see on a coin? Does this even make any sense lol or is it too late into the evening for me to be trying think.

I think you make perfectly good sense. I like all variations even if they are illegitimate, so to speak. If they look interesting, I found them, then I keep them.

I'd assume for those that started here looking for errors (myself included) and had the kind & loving :hilarious: help of the regulars here (I kid, people were nice to me) tell them MD/PMD 15 times, a sane person begins to catch on. The real trick I found for coin roll hunting and learning is to not look at every coin like it could be something special. If it looks like crap, 99/100 times it's only ever going to be worth face value and not worth the 2x2 and staples. So it ends up immediately in "bank bin". The only caveat is key date still gets a quick check like Close/Wide AM cents, etc. It helps keep the pace a little easier and your brain stops playing tricks on you.

Sorry for the rambling, I actually just posted a MD I found last week. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2019-s-business-strike-lowell-quarter-machine-double.346845/
