This seller had a 1916D and 1909 S VDB both listed that were both fakes and got taken down. I was wondering if his 14D cent is genuine? Or is it a fake as well? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-D-Lincoln-Wheat-Cent-Penny-RARE-This-Nice-Key-Date-U-S-Coin/283599667345?hash=item4207db8091:g:ycUAAOSwcPFdavSs
16 bids so someone thinks it's real. Seller with a 100% feedback. He has one Neg but EBay didn't count it. Still, it's in the raw. They got after him on the PCGS Board. I'd pass.
I especially do not like the reverse. I would pass. I do pass all gem auctions when they have the private bidders, shills to make sure it hits a certain price, IMO. Jim
The D is in the right position and appears to be the correct font. The rest of the details are correct. The verdigris on the U is genuine so i doubt it is modern chinese. Past history of the seller put aside, based on the pictures, I believe it to be a genuine 1914D VG10. It can't be determined by those pictures if the camera's color is off or if it was cleaned long ago.
I like several others reported the 1916-D and 1909-S- both were wrong in many attributes. I looked at the '14-D as well but agree with Ed on everything except verdigris on Chinese counterfeits but that isn't relative to this post!
I don't like the look of it but since he had 2 listed fakes that were removed why are you looking at his coins?
The center of the D mintmark does not have the angular shape that I usually see, but the photo looks to be 'electronic' or something so maybe fake pixels.
