No, it's classic 'mechanical' or 'ejection' doubling.

Not an error - a very very very common effect on
    all dates and denominations.

My vote is for MD which is known as worthless doubling.

I don't mean to offend but I call it MD as that is what it is, mechanical doubling but not all people understand that term. Therefore I use worthless doubling as that is something people do understand.

I understand, but "worthless" is such a loaded word...perhaps doubling that has no value.

NVD or No Value Doubling, we've created a new coin term! :)

NVD is actually one of the terms also
    used after MD is explained.

It could confuse some, if it's used for
minor doubled dies that are DD's,
    but have no premium value.

I don't have a problem with it, but feel it
should be used as part of a short MD explanation.

    The shortest explanation: MD=NVD

Thanks Fred, I've never heard of NVD used to describe a coin. Maybe I've lived a sheltered life. lol

    I think I was mis-understood.

I too, had never heard the term NVD until I just
    read this thread this morning.

I was just commenting on it - I didn't mean to imply
that the term had been used before...It hadn't, as far
    as I know.

    CollectingNut gets the credit !
