I recently became and grandfather which is incredibly cool. Im in my 40s and am lucky to have had healthy kids that were blessed themselves with having healthy kids. Anyway, hes the shizzizle and almost 4 months old now. My Grandma bought me $1,000 worth of savings bonds when I was born that were given to me when I turned 21. It was so cool to get that from her as she had died years before and I never knew her much. at 21, it was like winning the lotto and just totally cool to get something like that. I actually saved one and still have it. Face value is $100. Someone told me it stopped gaining value or something after a certain number of years? I just leave it in the safe anyway and someday may figure it out.

Anyway, I want to do something similar for my grandson. Ive already gotten some solid investments for him but I want to get him something a little more "interesting". I dont want it to cost alot today and I dont even care if it appreciates tremendously. I thought about getting some sort of 2019 coin but....IDK, Im looking for ideas.

On a $50 budget, what coin, bill or whatever (in this fun world) might be cool for him to get when he is 21? Any suggestions on what to buy for him that might be cool in 21 years??????

    Thanks for ideas!!!!

I think those old US Savings Bonds matured at 7 and one half years. After that they were face value.

I'd start setting aside coins and currency now. When he reaches the age of reason you may be able to get him hooked on collecting.

With a fifty buck budget. And a grandson being born in 2019, the fiftieth anniversary of the first steps on the moon..... What about one of the commemorative Apollo coins the mint released earlier this year? On the hundredth anniversary, your grandson could hand it off to his grandson!
