Any one every use NGC Photo Vision? Is it worth it and how does it compare to PCGS Trueview? I got some coins i want to submit for grading that have some nice color. I really like the PCGS Trueview images but only a member of NGC right now. Also got a couple varieties I want attributed.
I've only used it once but I was happy with it. To me, it brought out the best qualities of my coin (token).
8 dollars a coin just for a picture that's already at the TPGs is to pricey for me. If I had coins worth enough (especially US coins) for grading and pictures I'd join PCGS and send them there.
Thanks. Nothing really pricey that I plan on sending in. I do prefer NGC but the PCGS TrueView looks really good. The photo Chris just posted looks pretty good to me. Might give NGC Photo Vision a go and post the results.
@flyers10 Please let me know how it works out. I will eventually try the NGC photovision. I've had pcgs trueviews.....and Ive been let down a few times. The trueview made the coin look nicer than it really was in person.
I sure will. Hopefully will have the submission out in the next week so should have the results with an Economy submission near the near the end of June.
It's not the same photo as in the coin's certification. It - like the TrueView (two lies for the same buck) - it is supposed to be a glamour shot, showing the coin in the best possible light (pun intended). Of course they don't call them glam shots, they claim it's showing the coin's true beauty.
I can confirm this. I had two observations (above photo) that are obvious to me: 1) The photo doesn't capture the luster of the actual coin in hand 2) The color looks better in the photo than in hand
Well unless they have changed it PCGS charges $10 Of course if you submit it under a gold shield tier then the truview is free, but the tier costs considerably more than an extra $10.
Decided on sending the next submission to NGC and give photo vision a try. Good bad or ugly I will post the results!
True but seems a little excessive for a TPG add on picture when you can get TrueViews for $5 now. Gold shield is only $5 extra a coin and can be used on any tier.
Could be but I got my price info from PCGS's site. Could have been on old link though as it didn't say anything about gold shield being available for any tier for an additional $5. If it is true then yes imaging at PCGS would be cheaper.
I was not at all happy with my last batch of trueviews Jan. 2019. It was a lot of early Lincolns. The TV's were much darker and bluer than in hand.
I've heard similar experiences lately. I've also heard that they sometimes take more than one photo. It might be worth a try contacting PCGS to ask if they have alternative photos?
